Year 10 Business and DT students had the opportunity to participate in an incursion led by QACI alum Stefanie Stan and members of the University of Queensland UQ Innovation and Entrepreneurship Society, as a start to the Future Anything ACTIVATE program.

Katie Bray, Year 10 provides us her reflection of the experience.

On Tuesday (week 3, term 3), I, along with the other Business and DT students had the opportunity to participate in an incursion led by an alumni and members of the UQIES (UQ Innovation and Entrepreneurship Society), as a start to the Future Anything ACTIVATE program. We started the day by brainstorming and developing problems that became the basis for forming groups for the ACTIVATE program and the mini Hackathon that took place later in the day.

The UQIES led us through a mini Hackathon, which involved us participating in activities and using tools to begin our research and develop our problem and solution. Later in the day they demonstrated a pitch to us, and we worked on developing personal stories to assist our pitches. My group started developing biodegradable candy wrappers in order to assist with sustainability and prevent further waste in landfill.

Following this incursion, Business and DT students will continue working together on this project throughout this term and into next term, where we will get to pitch in front of the UQIES, industry professionals and business owners. We will also have the opportunity to present our pitches at the Future Anything Grand Final, which could allow us to receive funding, industry support and connections, as well as providing us with the opportunity to learn more about Businesses and how they operate.
