Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that's diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Collectively we can all #InspireInclusion.

This is the theme of this years International Women’s Day, underscoring the crucial role of inclusion in achieving gender equality.

Mr Leigh offered some wise words at our whole school assembly and it was beautiful to see him speaking up for female inequality around the world. His powerful words showed us how people all around the world are trying to enact change, giving us a sense of hope whilst underlining the issues.

Members of our grade 12 cohort organised a wonderful CAS project where they would collect second hand clothes in the days leading up to International Women’s Day. On the day, these clothes would be sold to the QACI community for very little and these funds would be donated to Amnesty international. One of the largest human rights organisations, Amnesty international pledges to continue campaigning relentlessly, giving voice to those who have had theirs taken away. Acts like these within our QACI community clearly show our willingness to enact change in wider society.

It has inspired me to think about all the inequalities that exist in minorities within the feminist movement.” – Sarah Wasifa Grade 12.

This quote was inspired by one of QACI’s Student Director speeches, who asked us to reflect on the fact that despite the fact that International Women’s Day aims to increase equality within society, there is still much discrimination in minorities. This was said to highlight the struggle of trans people, especially trans women, within celebrations such as this as there is still a considerable lack of acceptance. To truly celebrate international women’s day and embrace equality, trans women and other minorities should feel included in the celebrations.

Celebrating International Women's Day at QACI was definitely inspiring and thought provoking. We've come so far, yet we still have so much further to go.
