The electrifying sounds of the bands, before-show panic of musicians forgetting their ties, and the screaming from the mosh pit – the QACI Band Showcase earlier this term was the place to be. Audience members were in for a surprise with 14 talented bands showcasing their stuff, all with their own artistic flairs, even the substitution of a trombone for bass!
The night started off from the moment we arrived at school – our hearts already pumped as we impatiently wait for the school day to end. By the time 3:30pm rolled around, the tension on level 4 was at its peak, as we waited to hear our friends’ amazing performances. We all waited ecstatically to enter the theatre, encouraging the eating musicians, and praising them for what was soon to come. One student, said, “YAAAAYYYY I LOVE live performances I’m so hyped YAAAAYYYY,” her off-the-charts excitement joining the rest of the QACI students.
And all the waiting was certainty worth it. From the moment the first band, The Charms, started to sing I Put a Spell on You. The audience was enraptured in the beautiful singing of Ada and Irene, and were bopping along to the beautiful instrumental melodies. The night was young, as Year 10 bands staged their debuts, including shows from Kelvin Groov, Sick Chicks, Tranquil Tides, and Everybody Shut Up. These young, talented musicians (all of whom worked extremely hard leading up to this moment!) rocked the night away, gaining their very own mosh pit at the very front, a group of overeager students keen to support their classmates and fellow peers.
Of course, then there were also the spectacular costumes donned by each group, ranging from Jesus robes to pink hats to colourful ties, all of which only added to their spectacular performances. We’re so proud of these brave artists, who despite all of their preshow panicking, they still got up onto that stage and rocked their hearts out. One band (not naming names) provided quotes saying, “I AM SO NERVOUS BUT MILIND I’M MAD. YOU FORGOT YOUR TIE!!! Love you though.” I’m not quite sure what their drama was, but even missing Milind’s tie, Everybody Shut Up played spectacularly and earned themselves every bit of applause.
All in all, the QACI Band Showcase is one of the best performances I’ve ever seen, and I’m so glad to go to a school with such talented students. Kudos to Hayes and his water bottle, for his amazing job as an MC, despite the screaming horde right next to his microphone, and shoutout to Nyah, Noah, Becky, Alex H, Susan, Rori, Ada, Mimi, Suraj, Max, Ruby, Kyle, and Alex T for performing more than once – their commitment is off the charts and we are so lucky to have them!
