Sophia Evans
Class of 2017
Game Narrative Designer, Data Analyst
Brisbane, Queensland
For Sophia, creativity and curiosity have always gone hand in hand. From designing her first games as a student to pursuing doctoral research in digital media, her journey reflects a deep passion for storytelling, innovation and understanding how people connect through technology.
After graduating from Queensland Academies Creative Industries (QACI), Sophia completed a Bachelor of Games and Interactive Environments (Game Design) at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), graduating with Distinction in 2020. During her studies, she developed games across a range of genres and platforms while building expertise in narrative design, interactive experiences and collaborative development.
Sophia’s creative interests extend beyond visual and written storytelling into music and sound design. Having studied composition during her time at QACI, she continues to work on game soundtrack composition and sound effects design, bringing immersive audio experiences into her projects. She also played French Horn with Queensland Youth Orchestras up until the COVID-19 pandemic, reflecting her long-standing engagement with musical performance.
Her love of storytelling spans multiple mediums. With a background in scriptwriting and creative writing, Sophia has produced work across fiction, screenplays, journalism and digital content. This blend of technical and creative expertise enables her to craft engaging worlds and meaningful interactive experiences for diverse audiences.
In her early professional years, Sophia was equally committed to learning and teaching. She supported students through tutoring and educational roles while building a broad professional skill set across administration, healthcare and client services.
In 2022, Sophia completed a Master of Digital Communications at QUT, achieving an outstanding GPA of 6.4. Her research explored how gamification can be applied to productivity applications for adults with ADHD. Building on this work, she is currently undertaking a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Digital Communication and Media, investigating neurodivergent player identities and social experiences within gaming communities.
Outside of her academic and professional work, Sophia embraces creative communities in playful and expressive ways, including participating in cosplay at gaming conventions - an extension of her passion for character, storytelling and game culture.
Sophia’s work sits at the intersection of creativity, technology and human connection. Whether designing games, composing soundscapes, conducting research or mentoring others, she continues to embody the values of innovation, collaboration and lifelong learning nurtured during her time at QACI.
