Milan Gandhi

2008 QACI Foundation Alumnus
Law

"Being a part of the foundation cohort at QACI was a transformative experience for me. I credit the optimism of the teachers, and their infectious belief in our potential, for giving me the license to have unapologetically big dreams. That instinct - to not count myself out - has been an important guide in my long and winding journey from Kelvin Grove." - Milan Gandhi, 2026

For Milan Gandhi, the most important questions are often the most complex. How can emerging technologies benefit society? How do we ensure innovation is developed responsibly? And what role can individuals play in shaping their collective future?

Today, Milan works in Google DeepMind's Frontier Public Policy team in London, helping to navigate  opportunities and challenges posed by the most advanced artificial intelligence systems. His work sits at the intersection of technology, public policy and global collaboration, contributing to conversations that shape the future of AI globally.

Milan's journey reflects the power of combining intellectual curiosity with a commitment to service. While studying law at the University of Queensland – where he was recognised as the Australian Law Student of the Year – and building a successful career as a litigation lawyer, he recognised the growing impact of technology on society and began exploring how policy could help guide innovation responsibly.

That path led him to the University of Oxford as a General Sir John Monash Scholar, where he completed two postgraduate degrees with distinction while researching frontier AI governance and public policy. His academic contributions have since been recognised internationally (twice in the International Conference on Machine Learning), with his work informing discussions on AI safety and governance at a global level.

Alongside his professional achievements, Milan spent a decade founding and leading The Legal Forecast, a national non-profit organisation dedicated to preparing young professionals for the future of work and providing them a platform to shape the future of legal practice. This commitment to empowering others has remained constant throughout his career and reflects a belief that leadership is ultimately about creating opportunities for others to thrive.

Looking back, Milan's journey demonstrates that careers are rarely linear. By embracing new challenges, remaining open to learning and pursuing opportunities beyond traditional boundaries, he has built a career that spans law, public policy, technology and international affairs.

For current QACI students, his story is a reminder that the future belongs to those willing to ask difficult questions, think across disciplines and use their talents to contribute to something larger than themselves. As artificial intelligence continues to reshape the world, Milan is helping ensure that innovation is guided by responsibility, collaboration and a vision for the common good.
