Mridhul Nair
Class of 2014

Relationship Manager - Commercial Banking

For Mridhul Nair, the path from school to career has been anything but linear. What began as an ambition to pursue law evolved into a successful career in commercial banking, shaped by curiosity, adaptability, and a genuine interest in understanding people and their aspirations. Rather than following a predetermined plan, he embraced opportunities as they emerged, building a career that combines analytical thinking with meaningful human connection.

During his time at Queensland Academies Creative Industries, Mridhul was drawn to subjects that challenged him to think critically, communicate effectively and engage with global issues. The International Baccalaureate programme encouraged him to look beyond simple answers, explore diverse perspectives and approach problems through an interdisciplinary lens. These experiences would later prove invaluable in both his academic and professional journey.

Upon graduating from QACI, Mridhul pursued a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Bachelor of International Business at Griffith University. His university years were enriched by international study experiences at Soka University in Japan and Korea University in South Korea, where he further developed an appreciation for different cultures, perspectives and approaches to problem solving. He later completed a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice through The College of Law Australia, deepening his legal knowledge and professional foundations.

Although law was his original intended career path, Mridhul discovered that his greatest professional fulfilment came from working directly with people and helping them achieve tangible outcomes. This realisation led him into financial services, where he began building experience through roles with Commonwealth Bank and Macquarie Group. These early positions provided a strong understanding of banking operations, risk management, customer service and the importance of building trust.

Since joining ANZ, Mridhul has developed a career in commercial banking, working closely with small and medium-sized enterprises and business owners across a broad range of industries. In helping customers navigate growth opportunities, funding requirements and complex financial decisions, he found a natural intersection of many of the skills that first attracted him to law: analytical thinking, strategic problem solving and advocacy. The difference was that he could see the direct impact of his work on the businesses, families and communities he supported.

A defining achievement in his career came through his recognition as one of the Top 10 Bankers in the Mid-Market Enterprise (MME) segment across ANZ Business & Private Bank. The recognition reflects not only strong professional performance, but also his commitment to building genuine relationships and delivering meaningful outcomes for customers. It stands as a testament to the value of combining technical expertise with empathy, communication and a customer-first mindset.

Reflecting on his journey, he admits he wasn’t the best student at times and many mistakes were made. But Mridhul credits QACI with helping to develop the intellectual curiosity and adaptability that continue to guide him today. The Academy's emphasis on international mindedness and independent thinking gave him the confidence to pursue opportunities beyond his original expectations and remain open to new possibilities as his career evolved.

One of the most valuable lessons he took from QACI was that success does not always come from having a perfectly mapped-out plan. Often, the most rewarding opportunities emerge from unexpected experiences, new perspectives and a willingness to embrace change.

Today, Mridhul remains passionate about helping Australian businesses grow and succeed. He is particularly interested in building strong relationships within the business community, supporting entrepreneurs and contributing to the long-term success of the organisations and people he works alongside.

His advice to current QACI students is simple:
"Don't be afraid if your future looks different from what you originally imagined. The skills you develop through curiosity, critical thinking and meaningful relationships will often take you further than any single plan. Stay open to opportunities, back yourself when challenges arise, and remember that some of the most rewarding paths are the ones you never expected to take."
