QACI is proud to celebrate the achievements of two students who recently represented the school at the District and Regional Cross Country Championships, demonstrating determination, resilience and outstanding sportsmanship.

Following strong performances at the District Cross Country Championships, Year 12 student Lara and Year 10 student Tristan both earned selection to compete at the Regional Championships, where they lined up against some of the region's strongest young distance runners.

Lara continued her impressive form at the Regional Championships, placing 3rd overall in her event and securing qualification for the Queensland State Cross Country Championships to be held in July. Her achievement reflects months of dedication, training and commitment to her sport, and the QACI community is excited to see her compete at the state level.

Year 10 student Tristan also delivered an outstanding performance at the Regional Championships. While he narrowly missed selection for the State Championships, he achieved a significant personal milestone by recording a new personal best time in the 6-kilometre event.

Reflecting on his race, Tristan shared:

"I was not that nervous on the day, feeling chill, hungry and annoyed I didn't eat anything, but I run better without food. My race was full, with about 70 people it seemed because of two age groups, but I was still not worried and just wanted to try my best. I started off slow but I do best trying to catch people, and started slowly improving my pace and catching guys. Last lap, I went for a water and completely screwed it up and went everywhere except my mouth. I was pushing hard on the last lap, catching a few people and sprinted to the finish. I did way better than expected and got sub 25 minute for 6 km, which is a PB for me. So I was buzzing, and super happy for Lara who made it to states. I'm happy that I did the best I could and I'm ready for next year."

Tristan's attitude embodies the values of perseverance, personal growth and celebrating the success of others. Achieving a personal best on such a competitive stage is a fantastic accomplishment and a testament to his hard work throughout the season.

The school would also like to acknowledge student helpers Emily and Kaia, who assisted throughout the District Cross Country Championships and helped keep competitors hydrated and supported during the event.

Congratulations to Lara and Tristan on their achievements. We wish Lara all the best as she prepares for the State Championships and look forward to seeing both students continue to pursue their goals in the years ahead.
