Students in Year 7, and 8
ACARA Outreach Dance Workshop
QACI (Queensland Academies Creative Industries) is a selective-entry state high school for highly capable students in Years 10 - 12. As part of the Queensland Department of Education Outreach program a limited opportunity for Year 7 & 8 dance students is available to participate in an ACARA curriculum based workshop on Friday 8 August, 4pm (Term 3 Week 4) at QACI. The $15 workshop includes dinner and two tickets (student and parent) to attend the Arriving At Dance showcase taking place on Friday 8 August, 6:30pm. There is limited availability for this workshop and bookings are essential.
Students are invited to engage in a contemporary dance workshop exploring key techniques and expressive skills facilitated and led by Australasian Dance Collective Teaching Artist, Bella Hood. Bella Hood is a visionary contemporary dance artist and educator known for her innovative choreography and dynamic performances across Australia. As co-founder of kin dance company and a gifted teaching artist, she brings a rich, holistic approach to movement that inspires dancers of all levels. Students will gain insight into the creative process of Arriving At to uncover how the elements of dance have been used to communicate intention. Using concepts from the performance piece, students will explore contemporary practices to foster their personal style and develop their technical proficiency within contemporary dance.

Join us for
Arriving at…, the 2025 Queensland Academies Creative Industries Dance
production, showcasing original works from Year 10, 11 and 12 students.
This
vibrant program features postmodern group choreography, contemporary
and reimagined duets, and thought-provoking ensemble pieces. Year 12
students present both revisited and new works, culminating in a
self-devised group dance. Year 11 explores the theme of “airport”
through the lens of postmodern pioneers such as Merce Cunningham, Pina
Bausch, Twyla Tharp and Lloyd Newson. Year 10 students respond to
greetings and farewells, creating emotive duets inspired by audio,
visual, and textile stimuli.
Throughout Terms 2 and 3, students
have challenged traditional dance expectations, focusing on intention,
communication, and creative risk-taking. Arriving at… celebrates the
artistic growth, collaboration, and bold expression of QACI’s emerging
choreographers and performers.
