QACI Alumni Student Gwilym Temple ventured into unchartered territory and created his own unique Theatre company, Terra Nemo Theatre Company after leaving the Academy at the end of 2013.
Terra Nemo which translates to No Man’s Land, is “an anomalous, ambiguous, or indefinite area,” the space between school and industry. It is an organisation, in partnership with Brisbane City Council’s Visible Ink program, providing a platform for young artists to experiment, create and discuss with the aim to provide present secondary and tertiary education students, as well as recent graduates, a platform for experimentation and learning across a variety of theatrical production roles. Each project is underpinned by a research methodology, encouraging those involved to apply and reflect on their learning, both through their personal process and exploration into the wider field of arts.
All productions created at Terra Nemo Theatre Company, at the mid-point of the rehearsal process, are marked with the Bare Essentials series; a chance for the audience to engage with the artist in a relaxed, open rehearsal environment. These events provide the catalyst for guests to take on an active role in the development of both artist and their theatre.
