Queensland Academies Creative Industries Visual Arts students are treated annually with an entire day dedicated to art as part of their International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme. They are provided with the opportunity to engage with professional contemporary artists in a studio/workshop atmosphere. Students regale in the opportunity to commence or complete works that will eventually be used as part of their final IB Visual Arts Exhibition at the end of Year 12.
During the day, students are exposed to artist talks, theories and practices from practising artists – Sam Eyles, Casselle Mountford, Dave Machen, Glen Skien and Catherine Parker. They collaborate in art-making processes with an aim to produce what is currently our Visual Art Exhibition on display in Gallery 61.
This fortnight, Principal Gavin Bryce was fortunate to be able to see and experience some of the day as well as catch up with Visual Arts Students Acacia Calder – Year 11, Luca Cadioli – Year 12, as well as Visual Arts Educator Karen Stevens.
