The process of learning at the Queensland Academies follows a specific pathway. During the first year, Year 10 students take the Preliminary IB program which is a development curriculum aimed to prepare students for the full International Baccalaureate program – we refer this phase as IB Proper. At the Creative Industries Campus, we include the following Arts subjects we refer to as our Group 5 and 6 Subjects.
This subject aims to enable learners to:
- Understand a wide range of styles and genres from Music of the Theater, Vocal Song, Jazz and Film of different eras in history.
- Develop and individual style
- Development of analysis and audiation skills
- Consider the implications of non-musical contextual influences on music such as artistic, political, sociological, economical, ideological, and philosophical viewpoints
- Develop their musicianship skills through theory, audiation, analysis, composition, and performance (ensemble and solo), and the use of music technology. <More>
The Pre-IB theatre course prepares students for further work in the IB by establishing the foundations of performance and performance analysis. By broadening the awareness of the fundamental elements of performance – the body, voice, space, and time – reinforced through the creation process, students gain practical experience and understanding that can be later applied within the IB theatre course. <More>
Pre-IB Film studies is a course that aims to prepare the student for the artistic and analytical requirements of the IB proper. It allows the student to explore the different components of the storytelling process in terms of film language, technology, art, and reflection. Students are encouraged to engage in creative processes that are at once challenging and new to their traditional ways of thinking. <More>
Visual arts within the IB framework works to engage students in both practical exploration and artistic production, and in contextual, visual, and critical investigation. the course if designed to enable students to gain an understanding of the nature of IB Visual Arts through the exploration of a range of experiences with 2D, 3D, and new media (digital). <More>
The Design Technology course at QACI consists of a Pre-IB preparation and introduction into Design and is for year 10 students in their first year at QACI. After Pre-IB, the students then enter into IB1 as a Year 11 student, and then on to IB2 in term 4 and the following year as a year 12 student. <More>
Dance is a unique medium for learning about self and the world. It is one essential component of artistic, aesthetic and cultural education, and develops creative potential through physical expression. In dance, the integration of body, mind and spirit helps participants learn skills that are transferable to other disciplines and to their daily lives.
The Diploma Program Dance (IB Dance) course is designed to offer students the opportunity to build on prior experience in dance while encouraging a broad approach to the subject. <More>
