A fond “adios amigos”

Welcome and Farewell to Spanish Students

Our QACI flock has temporarily expanded in the last week with the inclusion of our Spanish visitors from our sister school ‘el institituto Rosalia de Castro’ in Santiago de Compostela. This weekend we farewell our Spanish amigos who have been staying with their host families since 2nd July. During their short time, our visitors have experienced the relentless mechanism of life at QACI as well as taking in the sights that our beautiful city has to offer such as, Mt Coot-tha, Southbank, and a visit to Lone Pine among some. May I express my thanks to all the host families for opening your homes, and hearts to the exchange students, as it is your generosity that makes these opportunities happen. I am sure many lasting relationships have been forged and the benefits of this exchange will be felt for a long time.

Alliance Française “Le Concours  de Poésie 2017″

The annual Alliance Française poetry competition “Le Concours de Chanson et de Poésie 2017″ will be held on Saturday 19 August 2017 between 1.30 and 4.30 pm at Alliance française de Brisbane. In 2016, 18 different schools entered 303 participants! The competition is open to all students of French. Year 10 to Year 12 students must choose a poem from the 2017 Poem booklet according to their year level or alternatively students can select a poem from the 2017 Special Edition exploring the little known continent of the African poetry. These are attached. According to their age, students recite a poem in front of a jury usually composed of two French teachers. Songs and poems are learnt by heart. Pronunciation and clarity, memorisation, interpretation and prosody are the 4 main criteria. The registration deadline is Monday 17th July 2017 and the fee is $10 per student.

For students wishing to register, collect a permission form from your French teacher.

A Cultural and Linguistics Immersion Program for French

‘La Maison de Ste ClaireA Cultural and Linguistics Immersion Centre for French situated in the beautiful hinterland of northern New South Wales run Youth French Immersion Programs. They are offering our school a fantastic deal of $339 for a two night and 3 day French immersion programme from 4th-6th August this year. Students would arrive on Friday afternoon and depart on Sunday after lunch.

This is a program that requires no accompanying teacher or parent and QACI students have lessons together with students from various schools from throughout Australia. This program is designed by program coordinator and teacher, Gilles Berger, PhD. and are tailor-made to best fulfil the student’s needs.

La Maison de St Claire’s experience is well-renowned and testimonies attest to their highly effective methods. I recommend this experience to all French students but especially those in year 12.

If you are interested in attending this immersion course please email me edain4@eq.edu.au. for further information. Registration closes on 21st July.
