Delve into the world of Characters…

Laura Trenerry, Queensland Academies Creative Industries Foundation Alumni is returning to Brisbane for their The Travelling Sisters – Anywhere Theatre Festival gig which includes the opportunity for aspiring performers to learn with Laura during her workshop ‘Creating Characters Through Play’, on-campus – 6 and 7 May 2017.

Details of the workshop:

Creating Characters Through Play Workshop

Delve into the world of Characters in an intensive two-day workshop with Laura Trenerry. Through a series of games, exercises and improvisations, we will:

  • create and explore new characters
  • generate new material
  • develop ideas
  • play with costume
  • explore ways to find fun and freedom on stage and develop tools for continued practice

When we combine clowning in character costumes we can make hilarious and beautiful characters that could exist in any scenario.

This is an opportunity to ‘get out of your head’ and focus on impulse, following your own pleasure and the physicality of playing in character.

This workshop is open to all levels of experience and abilities – emerging artists, directors, teachers, professional actors. This workshop is suitable for ages 14+.

Laura Trenerry graduated from QACI in 2008 and then studied at the University of Southern Queensland where she obtained a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Theatre) before studying at internationally renowned theatre school Ecole Philippe Gaulier in France. She is one third of character comedy trio The Travelling Sisters who have been based in London for the last year. Recently Laura has performed with The Travelling Sisters at Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Prague Fringe Festival, Comedy Café Berlin, Etcetera Theatre London, Bedford Fringe Festival and Clockenflap Festival Hong Kong, Adelaide Fringe Festival, Perth Fringe World and Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
