Across the Universe is a creative ensembles showcase exploring space, time and our place in relation to the greater forces. Our musicians will provide a soundscape to the galaxy, inspired by previous space travellers from Bowie to The Beatles and back. The evening will feature performances from our Percussion Ensembles, Stage Band and String Ensemble alongside our student lead ensembles, performing their own arrangements.
The evening is a celebration of a year of Creative Ensembles that has seen students seizing their opportunities and immersing themselves in this program. Every music student is involved in an ensemble, with many performing across multiple groups on multiple instruments. The evening will also feature a special performance – our combined QACI symphony will perform for the first time with repertoire that includes a selection Gustav Holst’s The Planets and an original arrangement by Year 11 student Sophia Evans.
The Creative Ensembles program was established in 2013 as the co-curricular Music initiative, forging a stronger connection between classroom and ensemble music. The program encourages students to embrace the opportunity to pursue their own interests and passions in their performance studies. They work within self-directed groups with support provided by the QACI Music staff. Students select their own instrumentation, repertoire, and arrange the music to suit their ensemble. Their entrepreneurship and creativity are the driving force behind each of the performances.
So please join us for a night under the stars as we celebrate our 2016 Creative Ensembles and farewell our Year 12 Musicians. Bring a plate of nibbles to share.
This event will be held in the QACI Balcony on Level 4 (weather permitting) and admission is complimentary. Tickets however are strictly limited. To guarantee your seat and ensure that you don’t miss this showcase please secure your tickets here.
