QACI Presents Year 11 Epic Theatre:
Mother Courage and Her Children
One of Bertolt Brecht’s most celebrated plays, Mother Courage and her Children, follows the fortunes of Anna Fierling, nicknamed Mother Courage; a wily canteen woman with the Swedish Army, who is determined to make her living from the war. Over the course of the play, she loses all three of her children, Swiss Cheese, Eilif, and Kattrin, to the very war from which she tried to profit.
Exploiting the full potential of a range of Brechtian devices through curated episodes of Tony Kushner’s contemporary adaptation, this production showcases the Year 11 Theatre students’ practical exploration of the text. Rich with vibrant and stunning visual sequences of action and supported by original music composed by the QACI Year 11 Music students, the production seeks to explore the often contradictory nature of war and to emphasise the didactic statement of the play, war means business.
