Queensland Academies Creative Industries (QACI) would like to congratulate Oscar Matthews, Year 10 and Emily Storey, Year 12 on their outstanding efforts at the Australian National Band Championships.

The Australian National Band Championships were held in Brisbane over the Easter weekend at Brisbane City Hall. The Queensland Youth Orchestras Wind Ensemble, conducted by David Law, competed in the Junior A Grade Concert Band section against the best junior concert bands in the country. The QYO Wind Ensemble comprises secondary school-aged woodwind, brass and percussion players and features two #QACI students – Emily Storey, Year 12 (piccolo and flute) and Oscar Matthews, Year 10 (clarinet).

Playing 4 pieces – “On a Hymnsong of Philip Bliss” by David Holsinger (Hymn – 2nd place), “Berglicht” by Waespi (Test Piece – 2nd place), “San Antonio Dances” by Frank Ticheli (Own Choice – 2nd place), and “March of the Belgian Paratroopers” by Pierre Leemans (March – 1st place), the Wind Ensemble was awarded First place overall, making them the National Junior A Grade Concert Band Champions for 2019.

Congratulations Emily and Oscar! This is a wonderful achievement and demonstrates your passion for music excellence
