This week QACI embraced the opportunity and invited our new Year 10 2020 cohort of students in for some practical engagement workshops to assist them with their subject selections for when they commence next year.

One workshop involved students intervening and proposing changes to text and confusing a particular genre of writing. Experimentation and creativity was at play as 3 of our new students Jess, Suki, Mars put together the following piece of poetry.

We thought it was so great, we just had to share it!

On Saturdays, describing the land to his father

Even in the hottest summer

The rocks shone silver

With the precious water

The wind blew softly

In the valley

In the evenings, week after week

He spent just a little money

And the money dwindled hopelessly

Again and again

He always lost

And his life went on

All year round in the sunlight

Father wrote back sounded alright

Watched the man, down the valley

Begin the clearing

The Soil was bleeding

The hillsides aglow,

He wrote; it showed

Burning in the evening

Smoke curling

So many smouldering

On the Sunday.

In his ugly little room

In the late afternoon

Describing the men working

The machine for uprooting

Dreary, futile and lonely

Out as usual, down the valley

Always his luck was bad

And Father wrote back

Looking forward

To hearing more…
