QACI welcomed families to its first creative ensembles showcase for 2021 on Saturday night of week 9, Term 2. The showcase featured QACI musicians in both directed and student-led ensembles, chamber works, and solo performances.

The first half of the showcase began with Guitar ensemble's sentimental performance of All of Me and Watermelon Man, followed by Vocal collective performing Lacrymosa from Requiem by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Hamilton Hightlights by Lin-Manuel Miranda accompanied by Julian Wade. Amy Choung then proceeded to perform Cantabile et Presto on flute accompanied by Julian Wade, followed by Hayden Brumby on double bass who performed Elegy No.1 by Giovanni Bottesini and Gavotte I by Hans Fryba, also accompanied by Julian Wade. After that, Vox performed True Colours in Acapella arrangement and Run to You by Pentatonix. After a brief break, String collective began the second half of the showcase with their performance of Don Alfredo by Ramiro Gallo, followed by Oscar Matthews on the piano performing Ginastera Danzas Argentinas (Argentine Dances) No.3 by Alberto Ginastera. After that, Emma Zeng on violin and Minnie Lee on piano performed Liebesleid (Love's Sorrow) by Fritz Kreisler, followed by Claire Bai, Grace Sun, Fiona Tjahjono, Emma Zeng, Jemma Kim, Katrina Dang, and Mr. Stiller performing Experience by Ludovico Einaudi. The showcase concluded with Percussion Ensemble's performance of Orochimaru's Theme by Toshio Masuda and Sabre Dance by Aram Khachaturian.

The showcase would not have been possible without the tremendous effort of ensemble directors Mike Anderson (Guitar Ensemble), Alison Rogers (Vocal Collective and  Vox), Steve Stiller (Percussion Ensemble), Sophie Collis (String Collective), lighting team Bryce Delaney (alumni) and Hugo Wiffen, student hosts Stefanie Stan and Aurora Johnson, and music team Matt Christensen, Sophie Collis, Steve Stiller, and Kate Freeman. A special thanks to guest performers Natalia Carter (Alumni) and Tina Liu for their contributions to the showcase.

The night was a wonderful showcase of musical talents of dedicated QACI musicians – We look forward to the next showcase with great anticipation and excitement.
