On Monday 20 June, QACI Music and Honorary Music Students had the opportunity to showcase their talent to the broader community in the QACI Music Showcase. As well as student-led and school ensembles, the night also featured solo, composition work, and group performances. The music ranged from musical theatre, jazz, folk, rock, pop and classical.
The night was split into two acts.
Act 1 saw performances from the QACI Vocal Ensemble, in collaboration with industry professional Alison Rogers from Vocal Manoeuvres, with solo acts from Torvey Brandt, Artemis Fahmi, Alexis Parrish, and Matthew Ilii who accompanied by the QACI String Quartet.
Act 2 featured the QACI Percussion Ensemble, directed by Steve Stiller, a duet by Ahalya Murray and Amy Power and was concluded with superb performances by Corina Coll-Reyes and Dempsey Chapman who was accompanied by Chloe Jones, John Yang, Hayden Brumby, Harper Mikkelsen - the QACI Band.
It was fabulous to hear student composition work in between the live performances following their studies and on rock and pop (year 10), collaborative (Year 11) and experimental and explorative music (year 12) assessment pieces.
The night was ultimately a display of the incredible talent that many of our students possess in the realms of music, including inaugural performances by Year 10 music students. All the performers were exceptional and wowed the audience with their creative talent; a testimony to what is the dedication and persistence in following their creative passion.
Thank you to Music Teachers, Sophie Collis and Kate Freeman for the meticulous and tireless work behind the scenes, along with the student support and technical support crew who assisted them. With this community support these events highlight the inclusive culture and the willingness of all our students to assist. I am sure that everyone in the QACI community will be looking forward to the next music showcase.
