ANZAC Day is commemorated each year on the anniversary of Australian and New Zealand Defence Forces landing in Gallipoli during World War 1. It has become the ANZAC tradition to acknowledge and celebrate the ideals of courage, endurance and mateship that are still relevant today. The QACI ANZAC Day Ceremony was held on 26 April in remembrance of all those who served and gave their lives for our freedoms today.

The ceremony was hosted by Student Directors, Anna Ryley and Rana Chauhan, with Air Cadets Talia Armstrong in Grade 12, and Amelie Stubbs in Grade 10 forming a simplified catafalque. The QACI community were fortunate enough to hear Talia speak about her experiences with ANZAC Day as a Cadet; she described an ANZAC Day in which a veteran shared his stories, but omitted his name when asked, in order to honour his duty, and the selfless nature in which he served. It was particularly impactful to connect this with the intangible and humble nature of the ANZAC spirit, and to reflect upon the legacy of the ANZAC soldiers whose actions live on in the stories we share.

Following a reading of Tony Gunter's poem 'To the Sunburnt Ear' by Aurora Johnson, a moving rendition of Epiphany by Taylor Swift was performed by Luke Harrison. Whilst Brin Watson and Leyla Boz laid a wreath on behalf of the QACI community, a statement from Lieutenant Colonel Arthur Plugge was read by Stefanie Stan, detailing the courage and sacrifice of the ANZAC soldiers in the face of hardship. To conclude the ceremony, the community observed a minute's silence reflecting on the service of those gone before us, before listening to the New Zealand National Anthem and a performance of the Australian National Anthem by Chloe Jones and Anna Ryley.

The ANZAC Day Ceremony was an opportunity for the QACI community to remember the sacrifices of those in the defence force, and to honour their service to our country.

Lest we forget.
