Creativity, Activity, Services (CAS) is at the heart of the International Diploma Programme and creates holistic opportunities for self-determination, collaboration and personal and collective enjoyment for students at QACI.
While we find ourselves in a period of isolation during COVID-19, Year 11 student Adam has organised a CAS project to suppost those in aged care facilities who may be feeling isolated and disconnected during these challenging times. Through Home Instead Senior Care Penpals initiative, Adam and approximately eight additional QACI students have been writing to residents to connect and share stories. To date 15 letters have been written through the online program by Home Instead Senior Care. Whilst some of the elderly are not physically capable of sending a reply the letters have been read to residents and the response has been very heartwarming.
"This experience has been really rewarding by seeing the impact that small gestures of kindness can have, and I hope to keep writing these letters until quarantine for elder people has been rolled back more." Adam reflects.
Adam encourages those from our wider QACI community to become involved as an act of kindness to support the elderly in our communities.
