At QACI we love to learn and find inspiration from our students. Join us as we spend 5 minutes on the couch with Year 12 student Edith Firkin.

What are you passionate about?

I have always been passionate about writing. I started writing as soon as I could hold a pen. I wrote poems and short stories. Nowadays I write Fan Fiction and have written over 400 short stories of about 100 – 200 words. I have a site people can visit on Archive of our Own: https://archiveofourown.org/ - I go under the pseudonym Small Red Robin 13.

I mostly write for myself and if someone makes a positive comment about my work I feel really good. Especially if the messages, in my story, helped them in someone way.

Who is your role model?

Women in the 1960s who used writing to give women a voice inspire me. I also look up to Neil Gaiman – a well-known published author. He started off writing Fan Fiction too.

What is one of the favourite things in your room?

It has to be a photo of my mother on her wedding day. She just looks so beautiful.

What super-power would you like?

I would love to be able to teleport. It is not a 'flashy' super-power but it would certainly be useful in day-to-day life.

Remembrance - a poem by Edith Firkin

I scratched the name of my enemy

Into the wood.

So I wouldn’t get in trouble for wanting

A piece of me

To stay behind.

But now I am gone.

And my enemy’s name

Is the only evidence

That we were ever

There.
