Queensland Academies Creative Industries' students are learners with varied interests and students grow through experiential learning, understanding they have responsibilities towards each other and the broader community.
Chloe Jones - Year 12 shares with us her experience recently as she participated in the Mater Education Program completing a 3-day course to understand and appreciate what it takes to be a worker within the health industry.
"During the recent summer holidays, I completed a health program with Mater Education. The three-day course intended to teach senior students about careers in the health industry that they may want to pursue after graduating.
I was able to participate in tutorials with a variety of medical professionals such as specialist surgeons, doctors, and nurses, who shared details about what their daily lives entail from the perspective of their profession. The course also included multiple simulation practicals, which were my personal favourite because they gave us the autonomy to implement the skills that we had learnt throughout the course.
I thoroughly enjoyed this experience as it allowed me to see what a potential career in the health field would actually look like. It also allowed me to connect with other like-minded students and recent university graduates who gave compelling advice about their understanding of studying health science at a tertiary level. This course further inspired me to continue my pursuit to study the health sciences and further explore all of the possibilities within the field.
