Last Thursday evening the Year 12 film students presented their Experimental Films that were produced during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
The film students have been eagerly waiting since Term 3 last year to finally have the opportunity to present their works and have their films, shown to families and friends, come alive on the big screen. Following conversations with film students and seeing these films firsthand, it was obvious to see that many of the films were designed to confront current global issues. When asked about her film, Buy a Bride, Ella Stone said "It (Buy a Bride) is a take on the trafficking of women …and the subsequent influence to be stay at home wives."
All the films shown that night were in the experimental-style, particularly German Expressionism, French Impressionism, Avant Garde and Spanish Surrealism. Students took influence from many places and reworked it in a creative way.
It was great to see a show of community support at the event with most people being excited to be there and enjoying the various films that were shown.
