
Students in Year 9 can participate in our cross-disciplinary Discovery Workshops which
enable students to experience QACI and explore their potential across
the International Baccalaureate curriculum. These workshops will be held
across two sessions during our Open Day on Saturday 7 March, 10am – 12pm and 1pm – 3pm. (repeated content).
There are no knowledge or experience prerequisites that apply to Discovery Workshops.
Designed using a cooperative approach that merges elements from
different subjects these hands-on workshops provide opportunities for
lateral, collaborative, and creative thinking in fun and engaging ways
with our world-class educators.
Workshops are $10 per workshop and include lunch.

Can you Build a Robot Business?
Design Technology, Business and Mathematics
10am - 12pm and 1pm - 3pm
Robots are quickly becoming a profitable
business venture and a way of the future. Working collaboratively with
like-minded peers and with our little robot ‘Sparky’ students will discover how
to race him around a track. With creation and design of a brand, logo and
slogan, will this robotic adventure turn into a profitable business? Students
will explore vectoring and basic programming/syntax skills through design and
learn to understand business ideas and entrepreneurial concepts.
Science on the Dance Floor 
Dance and Science
10am - 12pm and 1pm - 3pm
Where do the worlds of scientific discovery
and choreographic process combine? Our Science on the Dance floor workshop
invites students on a journey to discover the unique cross-overs and
comparisons between these two disciplines. Students will unpack scientific
concepts through various dance processes and will actively adventure through
the science of movement making.
Le Septième de art - film en français
Film and French
10am - 12pm and 1pm - 3pm
A workshop that both gives students both an
insight into the French New Wave genre and asks them to create a ‘mash up’ of
classic New Wave Film segments, images and French cinematic phrases. Students
will edit classic footage into their own trailer of 40-60 seconds to be shared
with the workshop.

Yīn Yuè 
Music and Mandarin
10am - 12pm and 1pm - 3pm
Join
us to discover storytelling in Music and the Chinese Culture. We will explore
how pitch is used to communicate meaning, both in the language and in music.
Students will use their storytelling and Chinese Film knowledge to
collaboratively create compositions that tell the stories of ancient Chinese
legends.
Poetry in Motion
Theatre and English
10am - 12pm and 1pm - 3pm
Theatre is a collaborative form of fine art
that uses live performers to present an experience of a real or imagined event
before a live audience. Poetry in its simplest form is a literary work in which
the expression of feelings and ideas are given intensity with distinctive
styles and rhythms of writing. Discover how we work collaboratively to explore,
deconstruct and interpret a contemporary poem and create a physical construct?
The Museum of Pasión
Visual Arts, Spanish and Psychology
10am - 12pm and 1pm - 3pm
Inspired by the creative synthesis and emotions
of Spanish culture, art and language, workshop participants will produce a
mural artwork as they discover the formal and conceptual symbolic use of colour
and language. At the completion of the
workshop students will have an appreciation of formal and conceptual art
analysis and will share their collaborations, receiving and providing feedback
to celebrate their learnings.

your workshop time along with your preferred lunch option. Lunch will
be provided to students at 12pm on the day. Please note you can select 2
options in the lunch menu to indicate food choice and dietary needs.
Only
one lunch order per student will be accepted, regardless of the number
of workshops attending. Students can attend a workshop session at 10am
and 1pm (max 2 workshops per day). Please note the 1pm workshops are a
repeat of the 10am workshop.
Students will collect lunch from Level 4, Blue Goose Café at 12pm.
All workshop bookings need to be booked via QKR! with Masterpass by Thursday 5 March, 9am.
