QACI Dance students this term attended a 2-day Dance Intensive – Dance Lab. Students participated in workshop-based learning with industry professionals such as Jacob Watton a Queensland-based choreographer and performer working primarily in Brisbane and Toowoomba; Yasim Coronado Veranes, Director and Choreographer of YCV Dance Company. Charles Ball is an independent dance and theatre artist, performer and teacher; Jaime Redfern a dance artist, choreographer, educator and arts manager with extensive experience within Australia and internationally; and our very own Mia Sibley – 2019 QACI Dance Aluma.

The workshops on offer over the 2-days provided inspiration and motivation and focussed on working within the foundations of Contemporary Dance Performance; Contemporary Acro with a Cuban influence; Exploring authentic ways to move and how this movement can convey meaning; IB Composition; Manipulating movement and Corner Pocket Swing.

Students were immersed in a wide range of diverse dance cultures and traditions, and  engaged with a variety of the above mentioned dance specialists and independent artists. Overall students were able to enhance their understanding of dance processes with a view to inform their own dance practice.
