We are proud to announce that the final Creative Ensembles Showcase
for 2019 will shine a spotlight on female composers and their
contribution to music throughout the decades. An initiative of our
students, the focus of this showcase was proposed after students
continued to encounter the gender imbalance that exists in the music we
study and hear.
On the night, you will discover music composed by
women ranging from an early sacred chant composed by Hildegard von
Bingen, through to more recent artists like Sia and Amy Winehouse. The
program will also include everything in-between; some well known artists
such as Aretha Franklin and Carole King, and some music perhaps, you’ll
be hearing for the first time.
By shining the light on these
composers, we hope to raise awareness and encourage further exploration
of not only the females, but all composers who lack fair representation.
We hope that you can join us to hear each of our directed
ensembles: Percussion Ensembles, Vocal Collective, String Ensemble, and
Jazz Band; as well as many student selected and arranged pieces. This
Showcase will also be the final opportunity to hear some of the Yr 12
music students perform, so we invite you to share this night with us.
This performance takes place in the QACI Theatre, 61 Musk Avenue, Kelvin Grove at 6:30pm on Tuesday 22 October.
Tickets are free, however reservations are essential.
