On Friday 27th August, the Year 11 cohort enjoyed a day in the city, taking part in a photo treasure hunt. The day was a great opportunity to develop teamwork and communication skills, whilst having fun and improving our wellbeing as a community.
The day started with everyone meeting at the City Botanical Gardens. In groups, we were given a budget, and a list of challenges that we had to complete at various locations around the city. Some of the challenges included getting a stranger's autograph, finding a parking ticket with a 7 in the time digit and trying icecream with pickles, one of the more unusual activities that many found hard to stomach!
A more creative portion of the activity was dedicated to taking photos of items on a list; one group took a photo of 'something hot and cold' as a cup of coffee, another group took a photo of the Katy Perry album. Some of the more difficult photos included 'something representing Queensland', 'something moving at great speed', a 'vegetarian dinosaur', and a 'selfie with a figure in authority'.
After meeting back at the Botanical Gardens, we discussed our different and creative approaches to the activities before taking part in conversation walks, where we got to talk to others we might not necessarily always speak with, to build a greater sense of community. To conclude the day, we spent time investing in others, and giving each other Big Ups, celebrating everyone's individual strengths and talents as a group.
The day was a wonderful chance to have fun, and explore the city, whilst learning more about each other and understanding how QACI culture operates in our cohort. It also was a great reminder that leadership is also about leading yourself, and your cohort, to role model behaviour and attitudes for others, to help build community. Thanks to the Character Builders for facilitating the activities, and to Mrs Jennings, for organising a great day!
