On Friday 30th July, QACI hosted the Year 12 Composition Showcase, celebrating the efforts and successes of the Year 12 Music students. It was a special night as the graduating cohort heard their original composition piece performed by another QACI music student, sharing this accomplishment with the broader community. Ranging from solo piano, string quartets, pop ballads and music concrete, audiences were treated to diverse performances showcasing the amazing talent of the 2021 Year 12 Music Composition Cohort.
The audience heard live composition pieces written by Year 12 Music Students Chloe, Lauren, Oscar, Toby, Liana, Remi, Aditi, Zander, Aarya, Sofino, Sachi, Isabelle, Caelan, Genivieve, Molly and Sam. These compositions were performed by talented QACI music students Matt (flute), Emma (cello), Hayden (Double-Bass), John (Drums) and Lexi (Tenor-Saxophone), as well as the Percussion Ensemble, led by Steve Stiller.
In between the live performances, audience members were treated to snippets from the music Concrete and Electronic Compositions by Finbar, Catherine, Eddy, Joseph, Grayson, Pippa, Gus, Sepi, Henry and Harry. An entertaining moment of the night was Caelan's 'Sonata No. 1' and Oscar's 'Prelude', where each of the two pianists played the other's intricate composition, described by Mr Christensen as 'revenge best served cold'!
The showcase was made possible by the contributions of Matt Christensen, Sophie Collis, Steve Stiller, and Kate Freeman, and Dr Nicole Murphy who worked hard to ensure that all students were organised and supported musically. Another big thank you to QACI Alumni Bryce Delany, and current students Hugo and Anna for organising the production and technical elements of the performance.
Congratulations again to the 2021 Graduating Cohort; everyone at QACI is so proud of the hard work, commitment, and courage you all put into your compositions.
