COVID-19 QACI Community Update
Many of you may now be aware of a number of locally acquired cases of COVID-19 that were confirmed overnight.
As a result, the Premier has today announced that Greater Brisbane will be entering a 3-day lockdown, from 5pm tonight until 5pm Thursday 1 April for residents in the local government areas of Brisbane, Ipswich, Moreton, Logan and Redlands.
Our school will therefore be closed for a three-day period from Tuesday 30 March 2021.
At present the school will reopen after the Easter School holidays on Monday 19 April 2021.
During this 3-day period, the school will however remain open for vulnerable children and children of essential workers. We kindly ask all parents who can keep their children at home to do so. (instead of first paragraph below).
Staff will attend on-site as normal to support those children still attending school and to further plan for their Term 2 lessons.
There is no requirement for schools to provide online learning during this 3-day lockdown.
Students on-site during this period will not be required to wear face masks.
Parent, Teacher, Student conferences – Monday 29 March
As our Term 1 Parent Student Teacher conferences are being held via TEAMS, we expect these will go ahead as per current bookings. If your circumstances have changed and you cannot meet virtually with teachers this evening, please contact them directly via email.
As a school committed to nurturing our students as individual learners, we will continue to prioritise their learning needs and wellbeing.
During the Greater Brisbane 3-day lockdown the Queensland Government has advised this will be an extension to our Easter holidays and therefore, we will not be operating online classes. Teachers will be in communication with their classes via TEAMS for any adjustments to assessment.
Many subjects may have planned assessment this week, however many of these assessments are formative and designed to provide direct feedback to the individual student for future learning, reflecting our “Assessment for Learning” approach. Any exams or orals that were scheduled to be completed in class time this week will be deferred until Term 2.
Other assessments (i.e. Assignments, IAs) will still be due as per current student Assessment Planners. Students are expected to submit this assessment this week via the recommended platform (in most cases ManageBac or TEAMS) for their subjects. If students have any issues, they should contact their teachers directly.
NB: Year 12 EE (Extended Essays) Draft is due to be uploaded to ManageBac by 5pm Tuesday 30 March. It is expected that students, unless they have an approved extension will still submit their EE draft by Tuesday 30 March, 5pm.
The Blue Goose
Any student who had pre-ordered Hot Meals of the Week will be provided these meals during the first week of Term 2. We request families check QKR for any pre-orders they have made for this week and email Liz firstname.lastname@example.org to organise a credit or alternative date for the supply of their pre-ordered meals.
As a reminder, while the school is closed it is important that we all continue to follow
state-wide recommended hygiene and physical distancing measures throughout this period and to stay within our homes as much as possible.
If you are unwell or develop any COVID-19 symptoms at all, please get tested immediately.
I will continue to provide any further updates as appropriate.
I would also encourage you to continue to refer to general information as provided on the Queensland Health website. It is important that we all continue to focus on our own wellbeing and mental health and there are some great resources and information tools available on this website. (instead of below)
We will continue to update our community during the school break to ensure that we are well informed as a school community of any updates that will impact our students and their learning. School is still scheduled to resume on Monday 19 April.
Please stay safe and we look forward to seeing students for the start of Term 2.
