Artist Anita Hochman Gallery 61 Visual Arts Exhibition
February 4 - 23
Official opening Saturday 9 February 4pm - 6pm.
Hochman is an Australian visual artist known for her contemporary
abstract landscape paintings in which she explores luminosity and fields
of iridescent colour. Her paintings investigate perception, visual
experience and relationships of materiality, opticality, representation
Anita will be doing artist talks and workshops with our students as well as exhibiting her works in Gallery 61 from February 4.
exhibition ‘Terrain’ will include works that investigate the optical
and material aspects of painting, photography and iPad art. Anita is
creating a new body of work based on her recent artist residency in
Northern Iceland and travels in Norway. Alongside this new work, she
will show selected pieces ranging over 15 years of her practice. These
illustrate differing approaches to painting and to the frontier between
abstraction and figuration. In some paintings Anita employs silver and
graphite metallic pigments, in others an iridescent palette: some are
oil paintings on linen, others are plain air watercolours. In
conjunction with the paintings she will exhibit iPad art, and for the
first time, photographic works. Scale and format will range from the
miniature to the panoramic.
