Congratulations to Emma Chen, Year 12 for her fabulous Creative CAS project. Last year Emma joined the Artforce Brisbane Project; a community art initiative by Brisbane City Council that gives local artists the opportunity to paint original works on traffic signal boxes around Brisbane.
Students at QACI study the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme of which CAS; Creativity, Activity, Service forms part of the inner core component of this programme.
"The work I designed is called 'Planet Brisbane' and it is meant to be a planet that features several iconic landmarks and icons such as QAGOMA, Brisbane Museum, Story Bridge, Brisbane Square Library, Wheel of Brisbane, City Hall, Grand Arbour, Ekka sundaes and meat pies. It is located at the intersection of Beenleigh Rd and Nursery Ave, Runcorn 4113 and took about 10 hours over the course of a week after school to finish. It will probably stay there from 6 months to 6 years depending on its condition, hopefully it can stay there longer.
When painting it was very nice to hear encouraging words from the locals who walk past every day. Near the end there were two young children who were very interested in painting so we let them paint for a bit, which was adorable. Overall, this was a very fun and rewarding experience though it does require a bit of patience."
