The
Year 11 Theatre cohort recently completed their extremely successful run of Bertolt
Brecht’s Mother Courage, one of the most influential plays of the twentieth
century that followed the fortune of Fierling, nick named Mother Courage, as
she tries to profit from the fortunes of war. Navigating the battlefield against
the Swedish army, she loses her 3 children to the very war from which she tried
to profit.
The
story was conveyed through both physical and verbal conventions with a perfect
mix of realism and humour to keep the audience involved. It was a perfect show
to see the passion and talent the Year 11 theatre cohort has for performing and
it was great to see the talent of QACI in its artistic excellence.
This
production was extremely exciting as not only did it include teamwork and
communication with the theatre cohort, but it also incorporated the Year 11
music cohort who accepted the challenge to record and compose the music for the
show. This production was an amazing opportunity for both departments to come
together and collaborate on a common goal. Both music students and theatre
students were able to experience what it was like to work to a brief with tight
deadlines, and to collaborate with different artistic mediums which is an
experience that occurs often in the professional world of the arts.
Congratulations
to both the Year 11 theatre students and to the Year 11 music students on your
successful collaborative production of Mother Courage and her Children. We
cannot wait to see more of what we can all creatively achieve together.
