During the April School Holidays, Year 11 Film and Theatre student Vincent D'Amico was fortunate to spend some time working with a team of teachers at the Redlands Acting and Drama Academy in a facilitated workshop 'Auditions and Acting' to primary school students discovering drama and acting. He provides his reflection...

In April, I was fortunate to facilitate a three day ‘Auditions and Acting’ workshop, as a member of the teaching team from the Redlands Acting and Drama Academy. In this dynamic workshop, I enjoyed building relationships with enlivened students, to enhance their audition monologue and and assist them on the requirements of an audition tape.

I worked as part of a high-powered teaching team, where I felt driven to contribute towards the design and implementation of effective workshop exercises. I felt invigorated when my ideas were accepted and contributed towards the lesson plans.

I drew upon my knowledge acquired in my QACI theatre/film classes, and personal auditions experience, to make these effective contributions.  I thoroughly enjoyed the laughter and energised discussions that flowed from watching the audition tapes and seeing the excited faces of the students.

This experience has allowed me to infect these students with my passion for acting. I thoroughly enjoyed the learning journey that I took with these students. This has energised me to continue as ‘Mr Vincent’ each week to teach many of these students in theatre classes. Together, we grow as artists in our passion for the arts.
