Student wellbeing is a priority of all staff at the Academy.

We aim to provide the highest level of care to enable students to be supported in a healthy, safe and happy environment.

Coaching for success

Our integrated Coaching for Success Program offers each student a parallel support structure through access to both Care and Pathways coaches.

This program fosters a sense of belonging for each student within a team environment that supports, encourages and celebrates success.

Care groups and houses

Students are part of a vertical care system where they interact with students from all year-levels in a collaborative peer environment.

Each student at the Academy is placed in one of 24 care groups from three houses: Eveiller, Matjiin and Vivezza.

The care group coaches play an integral role in forming meaningful relationships with the students and fostering effective communication and trust with parents. The care group coach remains with the students for their three years at the Academy. They are also the first point of contact at the Academy for student/family progress and welfare issues.

The House system aims to build a sense of team and to support student welfare and progress needs.

Pathways coaching

Our unique Pathways Coaching program offers opportunities for deep individual discussion on academic progress, organisation and life balance.

Our staff and students work together to support complex peer networks and the delivery of study skills and assessment preparation and resilience programs.

Pathways coaching offers opportunities for specific year level focussed programs including:

  • Year 10- Senior Education and Training Planning (SETP)
  • Year 11- Preparation for Portfolio programs including the integration of university subjects and industry mentoring into the suite of Academy experiences
  • Year 12 - One on one mentoring support to ensure students balance the challenges of the IB Diploma with other pursuits.

As the Academy grows, the student circle of support will extend by the engagment of specialised personnel.

Our Guidance Counsellor:

  • works with other members of the student support services, administration, staff and parents to see that the welfare needs of students are met
  • offers a direct career and personal counselling service to individual students and groups
  • provides course and career information to the student community and has an extensive knowledge of education, health and local welfare agencies and can refer when required.

CAS - A spirit of community

In keeping with the philosophy of the International Baccalaureate Program, our Creativity Action Service (CAS) program encourages students to share their energy and special talents with others.

Students may participate in theatre or musical productions, sports and community service activities.

Through these activities students will develop greater awareness of themselves and concern for others, engagement with the world of ideas as well as the ability to work cooperatively with other people.

Students are expected to be involved in CAS activities for the equivalent of 150 hours by the completion of the Diploma Program.

A system of self-evaluation encourages students to reflect on the benefits of CAS participation to themselves and others, and to evaluate the understanding and insights acquired.

Enrichment program

Our afternoon Enrichment program is a vital element in realising the vision for the Queensland Academy for Creative Industries.

This program provides individualised opportunities for Academy students beyond the IB curriculum that are based on a 'higher learning' approach that nurtures student development and creative outcomes.

Activities include animation, film making, dance and fitness groups as well as opportunities for extra tutorial support in specific subjects.

Bright Sparks

At the Academy, we are committed to educating the whole family.  On February 4, over fifty parents joined us in a fabulous seminar, lead by the Buzan Centre's master trainer Jennifer Goddard. Jennifer's lively presentation outlined the obstacles to effective study and how we can unlock the creative potential of our brain through visualisation techniques including mind mapping. She also led seminars with all our students and staff as part of our Orientation Program
