Information and Communication Technologies PDF Print E-mail

The Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), which include computers, peripherals, software, email and internet access, are provided as an integral part of students' formal education. Use of ICT at the Queensland Academy for Creative Industries for any other purpose is not permitted. The use of any digital devices that have not been authorised by the Academy is prohibited. Our sophisticated technological environment could be damaged if unauthorised devices are used.

The right to access ICT is dependent upon the completion and return of the ICT User's Agreement Form. After a period of grace, failure to comply with this requirement will see privileges withdrawn.

Full details of the guidelines for use of our ICT resources can be found in the Information and Communication Technology Use Policy.

Personal Technologies

  • These expectations and protocols apply at the Academy when participating in extra-curricular activities and all other sanctioned Academy events.
  • The Academy is a creative, corporate learning environment. Personal technologies including multi-use storage devices are able to be accessed as part of our innovative environment according to the devices' contribution to sanctioned learning. The guidelines for accessing these devices relate to functions of time and place and will be made in consultation with the Academy Administration and staff.
  • No liability will be accepted by the Academy in the event of loss, theft or damage of any device unless it can be established that the loss, theft or damage resulted from the Academy's negligence.

Mobile Phones

  • This policy applies at the Academy and during other sanctioned Academy events.
  • Mobile phones are banned from being used on Academy premises and/or whilst under the duty of care of Academy staff.
  • There are times when it is genuinely appropriate and beneficial for students to have access to a mobile phone. Students may, for example, need to contact parents after Enrichment activities etc. However, mobile phones are not to be used to generate or receive communication during school. The school phone system is available for student use in the first instance.
  • Phones are to be switched off at all times. If found in use they will be confiscated and consequences issued.
  • No liability will be accepted by the school in the event of loss, theft or damage of any device unless it can be established that the loss, theft or damage resulted from the school's negligence.
  • No responsibility or liability will be accepted for harassment of or harm to a student at school as a result of mobile phone use.

Bright Sparks

At the Academy, we are committed to educating the whole family.  On February 4, over fifty parents joined us in a fabulous seminar, lead by the Buzan Centre's master trainer Jennifer Goddard. Jennifer's lively presentation outlined the obstacles to effective study and how we can unlock the creative potential of our brain through visualisation techniques including mind mapping. She also led seminars with all our students and staff as part of our Orientation Program
