Youth Media Council

Year 10 Film student Max Perdon has been selected to be involved in the ATOM Queensland Youth Council on Mass Media.

It is likely that Max will be travelling to Sweden in 2010 to be involved in the World Summit on Media for Children and Youth...

ATOM Qld’s Queensland Youth Council on Mass Media

This involved three stages:

  1. Max Perdon entered our competition to take part in the Youth Council and we were very impressed by his entry.
  2. Secondly, he took part in our two-day workshop, which was part of the ATOM Qld State conference for media teachers.  Along with the other students, Max helped to produce two very well received short videos about young people and media.
  3. Thirdly, Max has been helping us to contribute to an international discussion about the relationship between young people and mass media.  This has been taking place in a specially organised Facebook group, which has membership from several countries around the world.

The World Summit on Media for Children and Youth

The group of young people coordinating the international effort is based in Sweden, where there will be a significant international conference from June 14 to 18, 2010 – The World Summit on Media for Children and Youth.

Details about this conference can be found at http://www.wskarlstad2010.se.

The conference will bring together media producers, educators and young people to discuss issues related to the production of media for and by young people.

The next phase of this project now brings a very exciting prospect!  The Queensland Youth Council have been asked if we can involve our students as delegates at this conference.  This would involve travelling to Sweden as a group of students, parents and teachers.

At this conference Max Perdon and his peers will be making changes to the U.N charter.  The students’ role would be to take part in a series of appropriate workshops and to make a contribution towards a statement about young people and mass media to be presented to the conference delegates.

Specific information about the World Youth Council’s role can be found at http://www.wskarlstad2010.se/gyc.php  or click on the YWC map.
