The Creative Generation Excellence Awards in Visual Art and Design recognise and promote excellence in senior visual arts education throughout Queensland state and non-state schools.
Previously known as the Education Minister's Awards for Excellence in Art, this program has been conducted annually since 1990 and has helped raise community awareness about the degree of sophistication in concepts, diversity of technical competence, and the high standard of arts education in Queensland secondary schools.
The program comprises:
- submission of digital photographs of student artwork via a secure website for consideration by the Teacher Selection Panel and State Selection Panel;
- 10 regional exhibitions showcasing the work submitted, including short-listed artworks;
- a central exhibition in Brisbane and a touring exhibition of the selected work to regional galleries across Queensland; and
- a five-day residential workshop (September school holidays) for award recipients, conducted by professional artists.
The Awards Process
The CG Awards recognise and celebrate talented art students in the senior years of schooling by rewarding them with the opportunity to attend workshops in Brisbane with highly respected artists.
Every Queensland school was invited to submit up to 4 entries with approximately 520 received from across the State.
Up to 150 students have been shortlisted by the Teacher Selection Panel for commendation awards.
The State Selection Panel - consisting of practicing artists and tertiary lecturers - will make the final selection of up to 40 students to receive excellence awards.
The Central Brisbane Cluster Exhibition
The Greater Brisbane Central Regional Exhibition
will be held at QACI Gallery opening on Wednesday, 9 September. The show will feature 65 students' works and Award recipients will be announced at the Opening Event.
Attendance is by invitation. The exhibition will continue until Friday, 11 September.
Submissions from QACI are:
- Jessica Brain – Shadows of My Mind
- Rachel Tan – Planes come raining down on us
- Roo Murdock – Towards the City, and
