Guide to Prospective Parents and Students – 2018 Cohort
BYOD stands for Bring Your Own Device. BYOD refers to bringing your own current device or any device sourced from a retailer or supplier. This model allows students to bring an Apple IT device (within specifications) to the Academy that best suit their learning needs in a Creative Industries environment. Since Foundation, QACI has endorsed an Apple laptop as the device most suited to our creative students. This decision was made in consultation with Creative Industries staff and industry experts as to the best device for use in students’ Arts subjects. An assessment of device longevity, inbuilt creativity and productivity apps and resistance to computer viruses also informed this decision.
Parents purchase the laptop and organise insurance for accidental damage and theft. The device must be ready to use on the first day of commencement at the Academy. QACI also stipulates requirements for laptop cover and zip case to minimise accidental damage. We support students by diagnosing IT issues and consulting with families if further action is required. QACI does not supply laptops for students’ use through a loan program. Loan devices are only issued if the student’s own device is being repaired. Parents may source their Apple device from any supplier or may bring a current already owned laptop if it meets the minimum specifications.
We have provided a link below to a purchasing option through MAC1, an Apple retailer, but parents are under no obligation to purchase from this supplier.
